Start with Discord's native summaries when available
Discord's experiment automatically groups messages a member can already access into topics. It shows a preview, message count, and some participants, and does not summarize private messages the viewer cannot access. Its privacy policy says configured message text is sent to Google Gemini, raw text is not permanently stored, and generated summaries are retained indefinitely by default unless administrators choose a shorter period. Teams should configure exclusions and retention before treating it as a long-term server memory.
Tenka: best fit for multilingual, server-aware answers
Tenka combines recent-channel summaries with answers grounded in server rules and uploaded documents. The vendor lists 12 native languages, 100 commands each month on its free plan, and Claude from Anthropic as its AI engine. It is a better fit than a recap-only tool when recurring member questions matter as much as catch-up summaries.
Tenka does not publicly document the same scheduled-digest and export depth as SummaryBot. Its site says it uses minimal permissions, is hosted in Europe, and purges associated server data when the bot is removed. Confirm the current privacy policy and plan limits for your server before installation.
Nexcord: best fit for retained transcripts and staff handoffs
Nexcord is a transcript product first. It publishes manual, hourly, daily, and weekly transcript workflows, a dashboard, public share links, and PDF export on its paid plan. Its free plan retains transcripts for 30 days; Pro is listed at $4.99 per server monthly with longer retention and AI summaries.
The privacy model is different from an ephemeral summarizer. Nexcord stores messages used in transcripts for the parent transcript's retention period. Its policy says transcript AI runs on local infrastructure rather than sending that feature's content to an external model provider. That can be useful for governance, but administrators still need consent, access, and deletion rules for retained channel archives.
Summary Bot: flexible on-demand controls with fewer public details
The Discord App Directory listing says Summary Bot can summarize a channel or server by time, message count, or user and lets operators configure language, style, format, and visibility. That is a flexible on-demand workflow for teams that do not need scheduled digests.
The public directory does not document scheduling, export, history search, or exact pricing. It also lists access to message content and member data. Do not confuse this app with SummaryBot at discordsummarybot.com; they are separate products.

Shero is not the best choice for scheduled channel digests or a permanent searchable recap archive. Its message shortcut is narrower: an authorized server operator right-clicks one message and chooses Apps → Summarize with Shero. Shero returns a private summary, key risk, and next action. It can also use bounded recent context through Shero AI for broader questions.
The advantage is workflow breadth. The same app can inspect permissions, create scoped channels, answer server questions, process meetings, and complete supported Discord operations. The limitation is equally important: Shero does not currently offer scheduled recaps, persistent history search, or recap exports.

Privacy and permissions checklist
